Specialist OCD treatment

OCD Can Feel Exhausting and Confusing

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is more than simply being "particular" or liking things done a certain way.

People with OCD often experience unwanted thoughts, images, worries or urges that feel distressing and difficult to ignore.

These can lead to repetitive behaviours or mental rituals aimed at reducing anxiety or preventing something bad from happening.

OCD can have a significant impact on family life, relationships, school, work and daily activities.

Thoughts are not facts, you are not your OCD. Your values, choices and actions are what define you.

BABCP accredited CBT therapist, 20 years experience with OCD, in the NHS and privately. I offer OCD treatment:

  • Face-to-face in Christchurch and Parkstone
  • Online across Dorset and throughout the UK

A free 15-minute telephone consultation is available to discuss your difficulties, answer questions and explore whether CBT may be helpful.

Signs of OCD

OCD can look different from person to person. Common experiences include:

  • Repeated worries about harm, illness or mistakes
  • Intrusive thoughts that feel upsetting or frightening, embarrassing and shaming
  • Excessive checking, reassurance-seeking or researching
  • Washing, cleaning or contamination fears
  • Needing certainty or feeling unable to tolerate doubt
  • Repeating actions, counting or mental rituals
  • Avoiding situations that trigger anxiety
  • Difficulty concentrating because of obsessive thoughts

Many people recognise that their fears may not be logical, but still feel unable to stop the cycle of worry and compulsions.

How CBT can help

You are not your intrusive thoughts, you are the person noticing them.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective treatments for OCD. We use techniques called Exposure Response Prevention (ERP).

Treatment helps people understand how OCD operates and learn new ways of responding to intrusive thoughts and anxiety.

Instead of becoming trapped in cycles of checking, reassurance or avoidance, people gradually build confidence in facing uncertainty and reducing compulsive behaviours.

Therapy is practical, collaborative and tailored to your individual needs.
